Seasonal Employment

Job Overview: Job expectations will vary during the season and even the week. Generally, what you see below outlines what the work requirements are throughout the season. •Setting up the plant nursery and breaking down in the fall. •Attend the Ithaca Plant Sale on May 16 where we will ask you to help with the setup and breakdown of the booth and to assist customers. •Help in managing the hoop houses (setting up in the spring, managing the seed trays and plants, closing in the fall) •Potting of plants, watering, restocking, documenting and labeling throughout the season. •Assisting customers •Helping with monthly learning events at the nursery. Assist in monitoring and maintaining the the restoration projects including but not limited to the following tasks: • Tidying up from winter damage (tree cages, securing blown ground tarps, general spring garden work) •Mowing and maintaining trails (may include the use of trimmers and chainsaws) •Preparing for the moving of large tarps in the meadow project •Preparing and seeding the meadow project •Fall planting •Seed collection and cleaning Qualifications: •An enthusiasm for outdoor work, native plants and the natural world. •Accepting of people of all social and ethnic backgrounds, genders and sexual orientation. •The ability to work well with others, particularly volunteers, and are comfortable working independently. •Tolerant of working outside all day and doing repetitive activities like potting plants. •Experience or a strong motivation to learn how to use trimmers, small chainsaws, riding lawnmowers and ATVs •An acceptance of insects, spiders, snakes, rodents, cats and other wildlife that may make an appearance during the workday. •A willingness to work in inclement weather conditions such as rain, sleet, heat, cold •The ability to lift 40 lbs independently and 50-75 lbs with a partner.
